In an exclusive interview with Desawana Music, Sandun Perera opens up about his musical journey, the inspiration behind 'Arabi Kumari' and his upcoming album.
Desawana Music (DM): Sandun, 'Arabi Kumari' has been a massive hit - over 450,000 downloads. What was the inspiration behind it?
Sandun Perera (SP): It came from a very personal place. I wanted to create something that had energy and emotion at the same time. The name 'Arabi' came from a melody I heard during a trip - it just stayed in my head for weeks.
DM: Your music has a very distinctive style. How would you describe it?
SP: I call it 'Urban Sinhala' - it's pop music but rooted deeply in our culture. I want every Sri Lankan, whether in Colombo or a small village, to feel something when they hear my songs.
DM: Tell us about your upcoming album.
SP: It's called 'Arabi' - 12 original songs, each one telling a different story. I've worked with some incredible composers and lyricists. I'm really proud of it.
DM: Any message for your fans?
SP: Thank you for everything. Your support is what keeps me going. This album is for you.
