The accident took place when a tipper truck collided with a three-wheeler at Alawwa Valakumbura area on the Colombo Kurunegala main road.
There, the mother and son in the three-wheeler died, while the father and another son were injured and transferred to Kurunegala Hospital for further treatment. Police say they are residents of Boralasgamuwa area.
The deceased woman was 42 years old and was in her 18th year. The driver of the tipper has been arrested and the Alavwa police have started further investigations into the incident.
