Last night, Buckingham Palace released an official announcement that Queen Elizabeth II, who held the crown for the longest time in Britain, has passed away.

At the age of 96, she held the crown for 70 years. Britain's second Queen Elizabeth (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor) fell ill at Balmoral Palace in Scotland and later passed away.

Upon learning of the Queen's death, her family members have gone to Balmoral Palace, including grandsons William and Prince Harry, according to foreign reports.

Accordingly, as the King of Britain, her son, Prince Charles, becomes the new King and Head of State of 14 British and Commonwealth states.

Queen Elizabeth II served as the last Queen of Sri Lanka from 1952 to 1972. Due to her death, the Presidential Secretariat has informed that the national flag of all government institutions should be flown at half-mast on today.
