You don't need a professional studio to make great Sinhala pop music. Here's everything you need to get started.
Essential Software (Free)
GarageBand (Mac/iOS) โ Free and surprisingly powerful. Audacity โ Free audio editor, great for basic recording. LMMS โ Free DAW with virtual instruments.
Paid DAWs Worth Investing In
FL Studio โ Most popular in Sri Lanka, LKR 15,000+. Ableton Live โ Industry standard, expensive but worth it for serious producers.
Building Your Beat
Start with a simple drum pattern. Use the 808 kick on beats 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4. Add hi-hats every eighth note for energy.
Melodic Elements
Use virtual piano/keyboard plugins to create your chord progressions. For Sinhala pop, common progressions are: Am-F-C-G, Dm-Bb-F-C.
Mixing Tips
Keep your vocals centered in the mix. Add a little reverb for depth but don't overdo it. Use EQ to cut muddiness below 200Hz in the vocal track.
Mastering for Streaming
Target -14 LUFS for Spotify/YouTube. Use a limiter to prevent clipping. Export at 44.1kHz / 16-bit WAV.
