From basic scales to playing full Sinhala melodies on keyboard. A step-by-step guide for intermediate learners.

The keyboard is one of the most versatile instruments for Sinhala music โ€” you can play melody, chords and bass all at once.

Understanding the Keyboard Layout

The white keys are natural notes (C D E F G A B), black keys are sharps/flats. Find Middle C โ€” it is the anchor of everything.

Sinhala Scale Patterns

Most Sinhala songs use common major and minor scales. Practice C major scale with both hands daily: C D E F G A B C.

Playing Sinhala Melodies

Start with simple melodies by ear. Play 'Pini Bindu' melody with your right hand. The notes are mostly in the C major scale.

Left Hand Chords

Once your right hand is comfortable with melody, add simple block chords with your left hand. Start with just root notes, then add full chords.

Using Backing Tracks

Play along with karaoke/backing tracks to develop your timing and feel. Many Sinhala song instrumentals are available on YouTube.
